Abstract

Early marriage among adolescents is a problem influenced by various factors, including individual, family, and social environment. This condition was also found in RW X, which is characterized by cases of school dropouts, unplanned pregnancies, and adolescent interactions with peers and the opposite sex that are not accompanied by adequate boundaries and supervision. This study aims to identify problems related to the vulnerability of early marriage and determine the effectiveness of psychoeducation in improving adolescents' understanding, attitudes, and behavioral tendencies, as well as parents' understanding in accompanying adolescents. The study used qualitative and quantitative approaches through observation, interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and questionnaires regarding perceptions of early marriage. Subjects consisted of 15 adolescents aged 14–16 years and 15 parents. Interventions were carried out through psychoeducation for parents with the theme "Accompanying Adolescents Growing: Understanding Developmental Tasks and Preventing Early Marriage" and for adolescents with the theme "Know Yourself, Plan Your Future: Smart Teenagers Prevent Early Marriage". The results showed an increase in understanding among the parents, with an average pre-test score of 5.53 to 7.87 in the post-test, a 42.3% increase. Among the adolescents, improvements occurred in the cognitive aspect by 35.8%, the affective aspect by 52.8%, and the conative aspect by 29.2%. Overall, the average adolescent score increased from 49.33 to 68.41, or 38.7%. These results indicate that psychoeducation can be an effective promotive and preventive intervention in increasing understanding, forming a more critical attitude towards early marriage, and encouraging more positive behavioral tendencies in building healthy relationships and making responsible decisions. Prevention of early marriage needs to be carried out sustainably by involving adolescents, parents, and the social environment.
